brussé family sneak peek

last friday i had the pleasure of photographing a long time friend and his beautiful family. as you can see from the photos, they have three beautiful children—triplets actually!—who’s third birthdays are approaching in the next week or so. chad & kate are also celebrating their 6 year anniversary. they have been through a lifetime of experiences together, already, and are still going strong, as you can see. these little munchkins go, go, go all the time and keep them more than a little busy. photographing them was challenging simply because of the differing agendas and personalities of each. kate expressed that she rarely gets a family photo with everyone smiling—which is understandable— and there were certainly moments where i wasn’t completely confident it was going to happen for us that evening! but you shoot, shoot, and shoot some more, and with each image hopefully you improve your odds. and i think we got one! actually we got a few, but i’ve chosen a few of my favorites to share here.

i cannot express how awesome it is for me, as a friend, to see how happy, healthy, and amazing this family is... to see my friend so blessed with a full life. and furthermore, i cannot say how pleased i am to capture these images for them. you guys are beautiful.

we had typical boise weather, the temps were in the high 80’s and the evening light was wonderful. the mosquitos were out in full force and i walked away with about 30 bites despite the copious amounts of bug spray. i think i missed a few spots though. i think the mosquitos were enjoying me so much they left my friends alone! now that’s dedication.

and here are some of my most favorites, because as you know, i really think mom’s should have amazing pictures of themselves. especially this mom. a mother to triplets rarely gets the time to pamper herself, and kate has been working so hard on a nursing degree in  addition to being a mom. it’s rough. there’s no doubt about how hard a job it is to be a mom, then times that by three and add in school. holy cow! i don’t know how she does it.

kate mentioned something else that resonated with me and reinforced my goal to get the gorgeous mamma shot. it’s important for US to have pictures of our mothers (and fathers too). but it’s the moms that get left out of the family photos, because we are taking the pictures! i think it’s important for us to look at pictures of ourselves as moms, because we see our mothers in they way we tilt our head, or laugh a certain way. and beyond being able to look at a flattering image of ourselves and remember that we ARE beautiful—despite the snot or spit-up our kid just smeared on our shirt—these are images our children will cherish when they find themselves in our shoes.

enjoy.
and there will be more of this lovely family and sweet children to come... so stay tuned :-)
